The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and paid to local authorities by a grant based on the number of pupils registered as eligible for free school meals (FSM) in Reception to Year 11. Schools decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since it is recognised that they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. The Pupil Premium Grant is currently (2022-23) £1385 per child.
From April 2012, the Government widened the coverage of the Premium to include those eligible for FSM at any point in the previous six years (known as the Ever 6 FSM measure).
Parents can now check eligibility for Free School Meals using the easy online facility which has been launched by Hampshire County Council Catering Services (HC3S). This self-service option is available at:
This online service requires your name, National Insurance number or Asylum number, address and child’s name, date of birth and school. If your child is eligible for FSM the system automatically tells the school. The school can also help you with the online service; just come to the school office with the information required as detailed above.
The Service Children Premium is currently (2022-23) £320 per child. This is to support emotional and social well-being. The Service Children premium is for pupils with one of their parents serving in the regular armed forces (including pupils with a parent who is on full commitment as part of the full time reserve), one of their parents died whilst serving in the armed forces and the pupil receives a pension under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme or the War Pensions Scheme, or a pupil who has been registered as a ‘service child’ on the January school census at any point since 2015.
