Starting School

We ensure that starting school is made as easy and worry-free as possible for the children and indeed, for the parents, and make a variety of arrangements to help with the transition.

Whether children are already attending a local pre-school group and have visited our school with family or friends before or are completely new to our setting, a warm welcome awaits all.  Parents are very welcome to make an appointment to visit the school* with their child to help with deciding whether to make an application for a school place at Sparsholt.

The current programme of pre-school provision prior to starting school takes place during the summer term, when the younger children join us in school for a series of sessions. They take part in a range of fun activities, meet their new teachers and get to know more about being at school.  We also hold a meeting just for parents to ensure you have all the necessary information for your child to start school.

.

The length of part time attendance will vary according to your child's age and individual needs, taking into account pre-school education experience and readiness to take a full part in school life.  The headteacher and staff involved work closely with parents to ensure a smooth and positive start to school.  Further information regarding starting school can be found on the Hampshire County Council Admissions Website.

Please remember that not only in the first weeks, but throughout your child's time at our school you are always able to talk with staff about any concerns you may have. When parents and staff are working together, this establishes a successful base for future schooling.
